AHEAD OF 2012/2013 UNILAG/MAULAG POST-UTME: SENATE RE-OPENS INSTITUTION ON MONDAY

The senate council of the University of Lagos(UNILAG), now Moshood Abiola University(MAULAG) has ordered the return of the students to their classrooms as well as their hostels as they prepare to commence academic activities, after a what happens to be a turbulent semester.
The institution has faced so many crisis, both internally and externally, this semester, which includes;
• The death of their Vice- Chancellor(Professor Sofoluwe)
• The death of a former HOD in the computer science department. (Two weeks after)
• The protest called upon, by the renaming of the institution (two weeks after).
• The shut down of UNILAG and compulsory vacation of hostel and university buildings (few days later).
It would be remembered that the Institution(UNILAG) was forced to a closedown, two weeks ago, when the students protested the democracy day broadcast of the presidents, which saw them acquire a new identity.
The president, Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, In his speech, renamed the Institution after the supposed June 12 election winner, Dr MKO Abiola.
This was not taken in lightly as expected of the students, who vowed to fight till the end, to retain their identity.
The case even worsened when the students moved to Obstruct traffic flow in the 3rd mainland bridge, one of the busiest Routes in the state which joins the lagos mainland to the Lagos Island, thereby preventing the movement of people, their goods and their business for that day.
It was also reported that the Alumni council of the institution were not happy with the change as they also took the Federal government to Court, over the issue.
This led to the close down of the institutions, to allow the senate make decisions, which would ensure the safety of Institution, as well as its students.
At this moment, we are happy to announce that, the decision has been made, and the senate has ordered the University to be re-opened, and academic activities, to be commenced immediately.
The UNILAG Senate hereby re-opens the university on Monday 18th June; 2012.
Student are to return to their hostels on Sunday 17th June; 2012 at 4pm.
Thanks
DSA.
All Unilag/Maulag students are by this notice, required to return to their various hostels, as academic activities would commence immediately
